Privacy Policy

Plain English, no jargon β€” here's exactly what we collect, why, and how we keep it safe.

πŸ“… Last updated: 18 June 2026
πŸ—‘οΈ My Bin Day sends you a friendly text the evening before your bins are due, so you never miss a collection. To do that, we need to know a few things about you and your address β€” and nothing more. This page explains what we hold, why we hold it, and how you can ask us to change or delete it.
🏑

My Bin Day was dreamed up in Yarm, in the North East of England β€” born from the very ordinary frustration of forgetting which bin goes out when. We're a really small team trying to solve a little problem, on a big scale, and we care about doing right by the people who trust us with their details. If anything in this policy ever feels unclear, just ask β€” we're real people, and we'd genuinely like to help.

1 Who we are

My Bin Day is a small, independent UK service (not affiliated with any council). For data protection purposes, we are the "data controller" of the information described below.

If you have any questions at all β€” about your data, your account, or anything else β€” you can reach us any time at help@mybinday.live. That inbox is checked by an actual human, and it's there for any customer query, big or small.

2 What we collect

We only collect what's needed to find your bin schedule, send you reminders, and take payment.

Information Why we need it
First and last name To personalise your reminder texts and identify your account
Email address Payment receipts and account-related notifications
Mobile number To send your bin day reminder by SMS
House number/name and postcode To look up your exact bin collection schedule from your council
Council district To match you to the correct collection calendar
Payment details To process your Β£0.99/month subscription (handled entirely by Stripe β€” we never see or store your card details)

3 How we use your information

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell your data to anyone.

4 Who we share it with

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run My Bin Day. Each only receives the information it needs to do its job:

πŸ’³ Stripe β€” payments πŸ“± Twilio β€” SMS delivery βœ‰οΈ SendGrid β€” email notifications πŸ—„οΈ Supabase β€” secure data storage πŸš‚ Railway β€” application hosting

These providers process data on our behalf under their own strict security and privacy standards. We don't share your information with any other third party, and we never sell it.

We may also disclose information if required to by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of My Bin Day, our subscribers, or others.

5 Where your data is stored

Your data is stored securely with our hosting and database providers. While some of our service providers operate internationally, they are reputable platforms with appropriate safeguards in place for handling personal data, including for users in the UK and EU.

6 How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as your subscription is active, so we can keep sending accurate reminders. If you cancel your subscription, we'll retain your data for a short period in case you resubscribe, and then delete it, unless we're required to keep certain records (such as payment history) for legal or accounting purposes.

You can ask us to delete your data sooner at any time β€” see Section 8 below.

7 Cookies

Our website (mybinday.live) uses only essential cookies needed to process your sign-up and payment securely through Stripe. We don't use tracking or advertising cookies.

8 Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

πŸ“‹ AccessRequest a copy of the personal data we hold about you
✏️ CorrectAsk us to fix inaccurate or incomplete information
πŸ—‘οΈ DeleteAsk us to erase your data (we'll cancel your subscription too)
⏸️ RestrictAsk us to pause certain uses of your data
πŸ“¦ PortRequest your data in a portable format
🚫 ObjectObject to certain processing of your data

To exercise any of these rights, just email help@mybinday.live β€” that address is for any customer query at all, not just data requests.

πŸ“± Want to stop your reminders? Just reply STOP to any text message we send you. Your service will end immediately and you will not be charged again β€” no need to email, call, or log in anywhere.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

9 Keeping your data safe

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted storage, secure payment processing through Stripe (we never handle raw card details ourselves), and restricted access to our systems. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to keep your data as safe as possible.

10 Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally as the service grows β€” for example, if we add a new council or service provider. If we make significant changes, we'll let you know by email. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.

We're a small team and happy to talk to you directly. Drop us a line at help@mybinday.live for any query at all β€” data questions, billing, or just to say hi β€” and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
