Never miss a Wirral bin day again

Wirral uses green for general rubbish and grey for recycling — the opposite of neighbouring Sefton, which trips up anyone crossing the borough boundary. Brown is the paid garden bin, and a new weekly food waste service started in July 2026.

How Wirral bin collections work

Wirral Council collects the green bin (bagged non-recyclable household waste) and the grey recycling bin (paper and card flattened, glass bottles and jars, cans, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays — clean, dry and loose) on alternating fortnightly weeks. From 6 April 2026 the grey bin also accepts pots, cartons and foil. A weekly food waste caddy service began on 6 July 2026. Garden waste goes in a brown bin on a paid annual subscription. There's also a blue bag for plastic bags and soft wrapping. Present bins by 7am with wheels facing the road.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Wirral?

Wirral collects the green (general waste) and grey (recycling) bins on alternating fortnights, with a paid brown garden bin and a new weekly food waste service from July 2026. Note the local quirk — green is general rubbish and grey is recycling, the reverse of neighbouring Sefton. My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always put the right bin out.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Wirral's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Wirral council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Wirral or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
