Westminster is the busiest, most built-up borough in the country — offices, hotels, flats and constant footfall — so collections are frequent and sack-based rather than using colour-coded wheelie bins. Rubbish is collected several times a week, with weekly recycling and food waste.
Westminster City Council collects general rubbish in black sacks, taken away frequently — typically twice a week for homes, and up to three times a day in the busiest West End streets. Mixed dry recycling goes in clear recycling sacks (delivered to residents twice a year) or communal recycling bins on estates and in blocks of flats — paper, card, glass bottles and jars, tins, cans and plastics — collected at least weekly. Food waste is collected weekly via a kerbside caddy, communal food bins, an on-street neighbourhood service, or a two-hour on-demand booking service in St James's, West End and Marylebone. New wheelie bins are being rolled out in parts of the north of the city. Garden waste is a limited service. Follow your property's specific instructions.
Bin setup and collection days come straight from Westminster. You can also check the council's own page at westminster.gov.uk.
Westminster collects rubbish in black sacks several times a week (up to three times daily in the West End), with weekly clear-sack or communal recycling and a weekly food waste service (including on-demand booking in some central wards). Most homes use sacks, not wheelie bins. My Bin Day reads your collection schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always know what's due.
My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.
