Never miss a Wakefield bin day again

Wakefield trips people up because its general-waste bin is green, not black — and it hands out two brown bins that look identical but do different jobs: one for all your mixed recycling, one for garden waste. Knowing which brown bin is which is the trick to bin day here.

How Wakefield bin collections work

Wakefield Council collects the green bin (general, non-recyclable household waste) fortnightly, and a brown recycling bin (all mixed recycling — paper, card, glass bottles and jars, food tins, drink cans, plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays, cartons, foil and aerosols) fortnightly on the alternate week. A second brown bin is used for garden waste, collected fortnightly from March to November on the same day as the green bin. The big thing to remember: green is general rubbish, and you have two brown bins doing different jobs. Bins must be out by 7am.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Wakefield?

Wakefield collects the green (general waste) bin and a brown mixed-recycling bin on alternating fortnights, plus a second brown bin for garden waste from March to November. Note the local quirks — green is general rubbish here, and there are two same-coloured brown bins for different purposes. My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always put the right bin out.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Wakefield's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Wakefield council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Wakefield or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
