Never miss a Southend bin day again

Southend is moving from sacks to wheelie bins, with a distinctive split-recycling scheme: a pink-lidded bin for plastic, glass and cans, and a blue-lidded bin for paper and card. General rubbish has a black lid, and food waste is collected weekly. What you have depends on whether your street uses bins or sacks.

How Southend bin collections work

Southend-on-Sea City Council (with Veolia) collects, for wheelie-bin properties: the black-lidded bin (non-recyclable waste) and the blue-lidded bin (clean, dry paper and card) one week, and the pink-lidded bin (plastic, glass, cans, foil, aerosols and cartons) the next — all on a fortnightly alternating cycle. The blue food caddy is collected weekly. Properties unsuitable for bins keep a weekly sack service: black sacks for rubbish, pink sacks for recycling and a blue box for paper and card. Garden waste is a paid subscription. Present containers by 6am on collection day.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Southend-on-Sea?

Southend collects the black-lidded (general waste), blue-lidded (paper and card) and pink-lidded (plastic, glass, cans) bins on a fortnightly cycle, with a weekly blue food caddy and a paid garden service. Some streets use sacks instead of bins. My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always know which container is due.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Southend's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Southend council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Southend or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
