Never miss a Somerset bin day again

Somerset runs its 'Recycle More' sort-at-home service: recycling and food waste are collected weekly across several containers, while general rubbish goes in a black bin just once every three weeks. It's more sorting than most councils, but very little ends up as landfill.

How Somerset bin collections work

Somerset Council collects general rubbish in a black bin (or authorised sacks) once every three weeks. Recycling is collected weekly, sorted at the kerbside into a Bright Blue Bag (plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, cartons, food tins, drink cans and aerosols), a black box (paper and card), and a green box (glass bottles and jars). Food waste is collected weekly in a caddy. Garden waste goes in a brown bin on a paid subscription, collected fortnightly. Present all containers by 6am on collection day. Note: Somerset is a separate council from neighbouring North Somerset, with a different setup.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Somerset?

Somerset collects rubbish in a black bin every three weeks, with weekly kerbside-sorted recycling across a Bright Blue Bag (plastics, cans, cartons), a black box (paper and card) and a green box (glass), plus a weekly food caddy and a paid brown garden bin. It's a separate council from North Somerset. My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always know what to sort out.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Somerset's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Somerset council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Somerset or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
