Solihull is an easy one to get wrong if you've moved in from elsewhere: the brown bin here is recycling, not garden waste, and the green bin is the paid garden service. Black is general rubbish. Remember brown-means-recycling and you're sorted.
Solihull Council collects the black bin (general household waste) weekly, and the brown bin (mixed recycling — paper, card, glass bottles and jars, cans, plastic bottles, tubs and trays) fortnightly. The green bin is for garden waste on a paid annual subscription (£49 for 2026/27), collected fortnightly on the alternate week to the brown bin. Note the local quirk: brown is recycling here, and green is garden waste. From October 2026 general waste moves to fortnightly with a new weekly food waste collection. Present bins by 6am.
