Never miss a Shropshire bin day again

Shropshire is one of England's largest rural unitaries. It keeps to a grey bin for rubbish and a green bin for all your mixed recycling, alternating week about, with a brown bin for garden waste and a new weekly food caddy introduced in 2026.

How Shropshire bin collections work

Shropshire Council (through its contractor Veolia) collects the grey bin (non-recyclable household waste) and the green recycling bin (paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles, tubs and trays, food and drink tins and cans — clean, dry and loose) on alternating fortnightly weeks. A new weekly food waste collection was introduced from April 2026, in line with national rules; before this, food went in the black or grey bin. Garden waste goes in a brown bin on a paid subscription, collected fortnightly. Some rural properties have a sack arrangement. Present bins at the kerbside by 7am on collection day. This information was correct at the time of writing; the council has proposals to change its collection schedule currently under review, so your service may be updated in future.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Shropshire?

Shropshire collects the grey (general waste) and green (mixed recycling) bins on alternating fortnights, with a new weekly food caddy (from 2026) and a paid brown garden bin. Note grey is general and green is recycling here. My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always know which bin is due.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Shropshire's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Shropshire council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Shropshire or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
