Never miss a Sefton bin day again

Sefton catches people out because its brown bin is recycling, not garden waste — the exact opposite of neighbouring Wirral. Grey is general rubbish, brown is all your recycling, and green is the paid garden bin. Some terraced streets are still moving from sacks to wheelie bins.

How Sefton bin collections work

Sefton Council collects the grey bin (non-recyclable general waste) and the brown bin (commingled recycling — all recycling together: plastics, metals, cartons, paper, card and glass, loose, no bags) on alternating fortnightly weeks. Garden waste goes in a green bin, collected once every three weeks in season with no collection between November and February, on a paid subscription. A weekly food waste service is being introduced from Winter 2026/27. Some mainly terraced properties are still on hessian sack collections as the council's 'Sacks to Bins' rollout continues. Present bins by 6:30am with lids closed.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Sefton?

Sefton collects the grey (general waste) and brown (recycling) bins on alternating fortnights, with a paid green garden bin in season and a food waste service arriving Winter 2026/27. Note the local quirk — brown is recycling here, the opposite of neighbouring Wirral. My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always put the right bin out.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Sefton's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Sefton council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Sefton or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
