Rutland keeps to a straightforward set: a black bin for rubbish, a grey bin for all your mixed recycling, a green bin for garden waste, and a weekly food caddy that launched in spring 2026. Black bins were downsized to encourage more recycling.
Rutland County Council collects the black bin (household non-recyclable waste, now a smaller 140-litre bin) and the grey bin (mixed dry recycling — paper, card, glass, plastics and cans) on alternating fortnightly weeks. Food waste is collected weekly from 30 March 2026, presented next to your black or grey bin. Garden waste goes in a green bin on a paid subscription, collected fortnightly with reduced frequency over December to February. Present bins by 7am on collection day (6am in hot weather).
