Never miss a Plymouth bin day again

Plymouth swaps the usual colours around: the brown bin is your general rubbish (not garden waste), the green bin is mixed recycling, and garden waste goes in a grey bin. A new weekly food caddy is rolling out across the city from 2026.

How Plymouth bin collections work

Plymouth City Council collects the brown bin (general, non-recyclable domestic waste) and the green bin (mixed dry recycling — paper, card, glass bottles and jars of any colour, plastics, metal and cartons, loose) on alternating fortnightly weeks. Garden waste goes in a grey bin on a paid subscription. A weekly kerbside food waste caddy is being introduced city-wide from Spring 2026. Note the local quirks: brown is your general rubbish here, not garden waste, and grey is the garden bin. Some areas use community collection points with shared bins. Present bins from 6:30pm the night before, or by collection time on the day.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Plymouth?

Plymouth collects the brown (general waste) and green (mixed recycling) bins on alternating fortnights, with a paid grey garden bin and a new weekly food caddy rolling out in 2026. Note the quirks — brown is general rubbish here, and grey is garden waste. My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always put the right bin out.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Plymouth's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Plymouth council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Plymouth or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
