Never miss a Nottingham bin day again

Nottingham catches people out twice over: the green bin is general rubbish, not recycling, and recycling goes in a brown bin with a grey lid (while garden waste is a brown bin with a green lid). Weekly food waste collections are being rolled out across the city.

How Nottingham bin collections work

Nottingham City Council collects the green bin (household, non-recyclable waste) fortnightly, and the brown bin with a grey lid (mixed dry recycling — paper, card, plastic bottles, food tins and drinks cans) fortnightly on alternate weeks. Garden waste goes in a brown bin with a green lid on a paid subscription. A separate weekly food waste caddy is being introduced, currently live in the Berridge area and expanding city-wide by 2030 under national rules. Note the local quirks: green is general rubbish, and the recycling and garden bins are both brown, told apart by their lid colour. Present bins by 6:30am on collection day.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Nottingham?

Nottingham collects the green (general waste) bin and the grey-lidded brown recycling bin on alternating fortnights, with garden waste in a green-lidded brown bin and a weekly food caddy rolling out across the city. Note the quirks — green is general rubbish, and recycling and garden bins are both brown with different lids. My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always put the right bin out.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Nottingham's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Nottingham council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Nottingham or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
