North Somerset runs a sort-at-home recycling service with weekly boxes and caddies, while general rubbish goes in a black bin just once every three weeks. It was the first council in the country to collect soft plastics and carrier bags at the kerbside.
North Somerset Council collects the black wheelie bin (general, non-recyclable waste, 180 litres) once every three weeks. Recycling is collected weekly, sorted at the kerbside across black and green boxes plus a red bag for plastics — and, since June 2026, soft plastics and carrier bags too, a national first. Food waste is collected weekly in a caddy (stacked on top of your boxes). Garden waste goes in a brown bin on a paid subscription, collected fortnightly. Properties unsuitable for a wheelie bin get sacks instead. Present containers by 7am on collection day.
