Never miss a Newham bin day again

Newham is an easy one to get wrong: the green-lidded bin is your general rubbish, and the orange-lidded bin is recycling. Both are collected weekly. A new weekly food waste service is rolling out across the borough, and garden waste is a seasonal green bin.

How Newham bin collections work

The London Borough of Newham collects the green-lidded bin (general household rubbish) and the orange-lidded bin — or orange sacks — (mixed dry recycling: paper, card, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles and containers, food and drink cans, and aerosols, rinsed and loose) both weekly, usually on the same day. Only one rubbish bin and one recycling bin per property are collected, with lids shut. A separate weekly food waste collection is being rolled out in three phases from late 2025 to 2027. This information was correct at the time of writing; the council has proposals to change its collection schedule currently under review, so your service may be updated in future. Garden waste goes in a green bin, collected seasonally from March to October. Present bins by 6am on collection day.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Newham?

Newham collects the green-lidded (general rubbish) and orange-lidded (recycling) bins both weekly, with a new weekly food waste service rolling out and a seasonal green garden bin. Note the quirk — green is rubbish here, orange is recycling. My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always put the right bin out.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Newham's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Newham council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Newham or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
