Never miss a Merton bin day again

Merton runs a twin-stream recycling service: paper and card one week, then glass, plastics, cans and cartons the next. General rubbish is a black-lidded bin every fortnight, and food waste is collected weekly. Your street is on either the 'yellow' or 'white' week.

How Merton bin collections work

The London Borough of Merton collects the black-lidded bin (general non-recyclable waste) every fortnight. Recycling is twin-stream on alternating weeks: paper and card one week; glass bottles and jars, plastics, cans, tins and cartons the next. Food waste is collected weekly using a brown outdoor bin and kitchen caddy. Garden waste goes on a paid subscription, collected fortnightly. Each address is on either the 'yellow (A)' or 'white (B)' collection week. Homes without outdoor space may be given coloured sacks — clear for paper and card, blue striped or purple for containers, red striped for rubbish. Present containers by 6am on collection day.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Merton?

Merton collects the black-lidded (general waste) bin fortnightly, twin-stream recycling on alternating weeks (paper and card one week; glass, plastics and cans the next), and a weekly food caddy, with a paid garden service. Your street is on the yellow or white week. My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always know what's due.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Merton's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Merton council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Merton or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
