Never miss a Manchester bin day again

Manchester splits recycling across two bins that alternate week to week — brown for glass, cans and plastics, blue for paper and card — on top of the weekly black bin. Working out whether it's a brown week or a blue week is the thing that catches people out.

How Manchester bin collections work

Manchester City Council collects the black/grey bin (general waste) weekly, and splits recycling between the brown bin (glass, cans, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays) and the blue bin (paper and cardboard), which alternate fortnightly so a recycling bin goes out every week. Some homes also have a green bin for food and garden waste. Present bins from 6pm the evening before, and by 7am on collection day.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Manchester?

Manchester collects the black (general waste) bin weekly, and splits recycling between the brown (glass/cans/plastics) and blue (paper/card) bins, which alternate fortnightly. Your exact day depends on your address — My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always know which recycling bin is due.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Manchester's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Manchester council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Manchester or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
