Never miss a Luton bin day again

Luton keeps glass separate from the rest of your recycling: a green bin takes mixed recycling, a black box is just for glass bottles and jars, and there's a black rubbish bin plus a weekly blue food caddy. Rubbish, recycling and glass all run fortnightly.

How Luton bin collections work

Luton Borough Council collects the black bin (non-recyclable general waste) and the green recycling bin (paper, card, plastic bottles, tubs, trays and pots, cans — clean and loose) on alternating fortnightly weeks. Glass bottles and jars go separately in a black glass box, collected fortnightly. Food waste is collected weekly in a blue caddy. Garden waste goes in a brown bin on a paid seasonal subscription. Luton's recycling service changed on 31 March 2026 under the national Simpler Recycling rules. Present containers at the front of your property by 6am on collection day.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Luton?

Luton collects the black (general waste) and green (mixed recycling) bins on alternating fortnights, with glass kept separate in a black box, a weekly blue food caddy, and a paid brown garden bin. My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always know which container is due.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Luton's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Luton council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Luton or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
