Never miss a Liverpool bin day again

Liverpool runs a purple-and-blue system: purple for general rubbish, blue for recycling, alternating on your collection day. Garden waste has its own green bin on subscription, and free weekly food waste collections are rolling out across the city in phases.

How Liverpool bin collections work

Liverpool City Council collects the purple bin (non-recyclable household waste) and the blue bin (mixed recycling — paper, card, glass bottles and jars, cans, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, foil and cartons) on alternating weeks on your collection day. Garden waste goes in a green bin on a paid annual subscription (around £50), collected fortnightly through the growing season. Free weekly food waste collections are being introduced in phases across the city, on the same day as your purple or blue bin. Present bins by 6:30am with the handles facing the road; no side waste is collected.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Liverpool?

Liverpool collects the purple (general waste) and blue (mixed recycling) bins on alternating weeks, with a paid green garden bin and free weekly food waste rolling out across the city. Your exact day depends on your address — My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you never mix up purple week with blue week.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Liverpool's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Liverpool council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Liverpool or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
