Never miss a Leicester bin day again

Leicester is one of a handful of cities that still collects both rubbish and recycling weekly. General waste goes in a black bin, but recycling goes into orange sacks rather than a bin — a Leicester quirk worth knowing. Garden waste is a separate paid green bin.

How Leicester bin collections work

Leicester City Council (through its contractor Biffa) collects the black bin (non-recyclable general waste) weekly, and recycling in orange sacks weekly on the same day for most houses. The orange sacks take paper, card, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles and containers, food and drink cans and aerosols — clean and loose. Flats and some shared properties use blue communal recycling bins instead. To request a new roll of orange sacks, put out the blue bag that comes with them. Garden waste goes in a green bin on a paid subscription, collected fortnightly. Present containers by 7am on collection day.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Leicester?

Leicester collects the black (general waste) bin and orange recycling sacks weekly — unusually, both are weekly — with a paid green garden bin fortnightly. Note the local quirk: recycling goes in orange sacks, not a bin (flats use blue communal bins). My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always know what's due.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Leicester's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Leicester council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Leicester or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
