Never miss a Lancaster bin day again

Lancaster City Council covers Lancaster, Morecambe, Heysham and the surrounding Lancashire district. From 30 March 2026 refuse and its two recycling bins moved to a three-weekly cycle — one bin each week — with a new weekly food waste service and distinctive red and yellow recycling bins.

How Lancaster bin collections work

Lancaster's schedule is unusual — grey, red and yellow bins each collected once every three weeks in rotation, plus a weekly food caddy and a paid green garden bin. It's easy to lose track. My Bin Day texts you the evening before each collection. Just £0.99 a month, no ads, cancel anytime. This information was correct at the time of writing; the council has proposals to change its collection schedule currently under review, so your service may be updated in future.

Grey bin — non-recyclable household waste (every 3 weeks)
❤️
Red bin — plastics, glass and cans (every 3 weeks)
💛
Yellow bin — paper and cardboard (every 3 weeks)
💚
Green bin — garden waste, paid subscription (fortnightly); food caddy weekly

Bin setup and collection days come straight from Lancaster. You can also check the council's own page at lancaster.gov.uk.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Lancaster?

Since 30 March 2026 Lancaster collects the grey general-waste bin, the red recycling bin (plastics, glass and cans) and the yellow recycling bin (paper and cardboard) each once every three weeks, one bin per week. A weekly food waste caddy launched in February 2026. Garden waste is a paid subscription (around £46 a year) collected fortnightly from a green bin. Lancashire County Council handles disposal.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Lancaster's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Lancaster council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Lancaster or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
