Knowsley is unlike anywhere else on Merseyside: its general-waste bin is maroon, a colour no neighbouring borough uses. Grey is recycling, blue is garden waste, and there's a weekly food caddy that launched in April 2026. If you've moved from Liverpool, the maroon-not-purple switch is the thing to remember.
Knowsley Council collects the maroon bin (non-recyclable general waste) and the grey bin (commingled recycling — plastics, metals, cartons, paper, card and glass, all together) on alternating fortnightly weeks. Food waste is collected weekly using a caddy, a service that began on 13 April 2026. The blue bin is for garden waste, collected once every three weeks during the season with no collections between December and February. Unusually for Merseyside, Knowsley's garden waste is included in the standard service rather than paid for. Present bins by 7am, out no earlier than 6pm the night before.
