Hull keeps recycling refreshingly simple with three clear bins: black for rubbish, blue for all your mixed recycling, and brown for food and garden waste together. As of spring 2026, the brown bin moved to weekly collection to capture more food waste.
Hull City Council collects the black bin (non-recyclable general waste) and the blue bin (mixed dry recycling — paper, card, tins, cans, aerosols, foil, plastic bottles and containers, cartons, and glass bottles and jars, all loose with no bags) on alternating fortnightly weeks. The brown bin takes food and garden waste together, with an outdoor food caddy; from 31 March 2026 it moved from fortnightly to weekly collection for most households. Present bins by 7am on collection day.
Bin setup and collection days come straight from Hull. You can also check the council's own page at hull.gov.uk.
Hull collects the black (general waste) and blue (mixed recycling) bins on alternating fortnights, and the brown (food and garden) bin — now collected weekly since spring 2026. My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you never mix up black week with blue week.
My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.
