Never miss a Hackney bin day again

Hackney is a dense inner-London borough where most homes are flats using communal bins. For street-level houses, recycling and food waste are collected weekly (recycling in green bags), with general rubbish every fortnight. There's no standard garden waste service.

How Hackney bin collections work

The London Borough of Hackney collects, for street-level houses: the black or grey rubbish bin (general, non-recyclable waste) every fortnight, recycling in free green bags weekly (paper, card, glass, tins, cans and plastics, all mixed — no separating), and food waste weekly using grey or blue caddies. Flats and estates have communal rubbish, recycling and food waste bins, all emptied weekly. Recycling doesn't need to be sorted, but must not go out in black bags. There's no borough-wide garden waste collection. Put bags and bins at the edge of the pavement by 6am, or after 9pm the night before.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Hackney?

Hackney collects recycling (in green bags) and food waste weekly, with general rubbish fortnightly for houses; flats use communal bins emptied weekly. Recycling is all-in-one with no separating, and there's no standard garden waste service. My Bin Day reads your collection schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always know what's due.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Hackney's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Hackney council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Hackney or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
