East Cambridgeshire upgraded its service in June 2026, bringing in black wheelie bins, weekly food waste and soft-plastic recycling. Unusually, garden waste here is collected free, not on a paid subscription.
East Cambridgeshire District Council (with East Cambs Street Scene) collects the black bin (180 litres, general non-recyclable waste — replacing the old black sacks) and the blue-lidded bin (240 litres, dry mixed recycling — paper, card, plastics including soft plastics like bread and salad bags, glass, cans and cartons) on alternating fortnightly weeks. Food waste is collected weekly in a caddy (introduced 1 June 2026). Garden waste goes in a green-lidded bin and is collected free of charge, fortnightly — unusual, as most councils charge for this. Residents can request extra blue or green bins free of charge. Present bins by 6:30am on collection day. Properties unsuitable for wheeled bins use purple sacks.
