Cumberland is a young council (formed in 2023 from Carlisle, Allerdale and Copeland) still harmonising its collections, so exactly what you have can depend on which former district you live in. The broad pattern is a grey or black bin for rubbish, recycling containers, and a green garden bin — all on a fortnightly cycle.
Cumberland Council collects general waste (grey or black bin) and recycling on alternating fortnightly weeks. Recycling is moving to two wheeled bins — one for paper and card, one for glass, cans and plastics — with rollout completing by March 2027; some streets are still on the older box-and-bag system. Garden waste goes in a green bin, collected fortnightly from March to November (one bin free, £42 per extra). Unusually, Cumberland does not yet run a separate weekly food waste collection — under a transitional arrangement, food is treated through its disposal contract, with separate collections deferred until 2034. Containers should be out by 7am (6:30am in the former Allerdale area).
Bin setup and collection days come straight from Cumberland. You can also check the council's own page at cumberland.gov.uk.

Note that container types still vary by former district (Carlisle, Allerdale, Copeland), and there's no separate food waste collection yet. My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always know what's due.
My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.
