Never miss a City of London bin day again

The City of London — the Square Mile — is almost entirely flats, offices and estates, so there are no wheelie bins or garden waste collections. Rubbish and recycling go out as sacks or into communal bin stores, with a separate weekly food waste service.

How City of London bin collections work

The City of London Corporation provides household collections across the Square Mile, mostly using sacks and communal bin stores rather than individual wheelie bins. General rubbish goes in council rubbish sacks or communal refuse bins. Recycling goes in a clear recycling sack or communal recycling bin — paper, card, glass bottles and jars, cans, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, and cartons, loose. Food waste is collected using a kitchen caddy emptied into a communal brown food bin or, on estates such as the Barbican and Golden Lane, by a door collection. There is no garden waste service. In central streets, sacks must be presented only within set timed windows. Follow your building's specific instructions.
