Charnwood keeps recycling simple: one green bin takes all your dry recycling including glass, with general rubbish in a black bin, alternating week about. Garden waste is a paid brown bin, and a weekly food caddy is being rolled out.
Charnwood Borough Council (with contractor Serco) collects the black bin (or black sacks — general non-recyclable waste) and the green recycling bin (mixed dry recycling — paper, card, plastics, glass bottles and jars, cans and metal kitchen items, all together and loose) on alternating fortnightly weeks. Garden waste goes in a bin on a paid subscription, collected fortnightly. A weekly food waste collection is being introduced from summer 2026 in a phased rollout, using a 7-litre kitchen caddy and a 23-litre outdoor caddy, collected on the same day as your black or green bin. This information was correct at the time of writing; the council has proposals to change its collection schedule currently under review, so your service may be updated in future. Present bins by 6am on collection day.
