Never miss a Cambridge bin day again

Cambridge keeps to a clear three-bin setup: a black bin for rubbish, a blue bin for all your mixed recycling, and a green bin for food and garden waste together. Rubbish and recycling alternate week about, and a separate weekly food caddy is being rolled out.

How Cambridge bin collections work

Cambridge City Council (through Greater Cambridge Shared Waste, with South Cambridgeshire) collects the black bin (or white sacks — general non-recyclable rubbish) every two weeks, and the blue bin (or box — cans, paper, glass, plastic packaging, cartons and cardboard) and green bin (or brown paper sacks — food and garden waste together) in the week in between. In winter (December to February) the green bin is collected only once every four weeks. A separate weekly food waste caddy service is being rolled out in phases during 2026. This information was correct at the time of writing; the council has proposals to change its collection schedule currently under review, so your service may be updated in future. Present bins by 6am on collection day.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Cambridge?

Cambridge collects the black (general waste) bin one week, and the blue (mixed recycling) and green (food and garden) bins the next, with a separate weekly food caddy rolling out in 2026. The green bin drops to four-weekly over winter. My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always know which bin is due.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Cambridge's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Cambridge council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Cambridge or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
