Burnley keeps recycling simple: one blue bin takes all your dry recycling including glass, with general rubbish in a grey bin, alternating week about. A weekly food waste caddy was added in spring 2026.
Burnley Borough Council collects the grey (or black) bin (general non-recyclable waste) and the blue bin or box (mixed dry recycling — plastic bottles, pots and tubs, cartons, tins, cans, glass bottles and jars, paper and card, all together and rinsed) on alternating fortnightly weeks. Food waste is collected weekly using a kitchen caddy and lockable outdoor bin — this service launched in April 2026. Garden waste goes in a brown or green bin on a paid subscription. Present bins by 6:30am on collection day with the lid closed. Collections are run in partnership with Lancashire County Council.
