Never miss a Bristol bin day again

Bristol runs one of England's most sorted recycling systems: rather than a single mixed bin, you separate materials across a black box, a green box and a blue bag, all collected weekly, alongside a weekly food bin. General rubbish goes in a black wheelie bin every fortnight.

How Bristol bin collections work

Bristol City Council collects the black wheelie bin (general, non-recyclable household waste) once a fortnight. Recycling is collected weekly, sorted across three containers: the black box for glass, textiles, batteries and small electricals; the green box for cans, foil and plastics; and the blue bag for paper and cardboard. The brown food waste bin and caddy are collected weekly. Garden waste goes in a green bin on a paid subscription, collected fortnightly. Put containers out after 6pm the night before or before 6am on collection day, at the edge of your property. This information was correct at the time of writing; the council has proposals to change its collection schedule currently under review, so your service may be updated in future.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Bristol?

Bristol collects the black wheelie bin (general waste) fortnightly, and recycling weekly across a black box (glass, textiles), green box (cans, plastics) and blue bag (paper, card), plus a weekly brown food bin and a paid green garden bin. My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you always know which containers to sort out.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Bristol's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Bristol council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Bristol or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
