Never miss a Brighton & Hove bin day again

Brighton and Hove collects general rubbish weekly and recycling fortnightly, with a weekly food caddy now rolling out across the city. Many central and terraced streets share communal bins rather than having individual ones, so what you use depends a lot on where you live.

How Brighton & Hove bin collections work

Brighton and Hove City Council currently collects general household waste weekly (in a black bin or box) and mixed recycling fortnightly (in a blue bin or box — paper, card, glass bottles and jars, tins, cans and plastic bottles; note cartons and soft plastics are not accepted kerbside). Food waste is collected weekly using a green kitchen caddy and an orange-lidded outdoor caddy, being rolled out across the city. Garden waste is a paid subscription (around £102 a year), collected fortnightly. Many streets in central Brighton and Hove use shared communal bins instead of individual containers. The council is exploring a move to fortnightly refuse, so check your address.
