Never miss a Birmingham bin day again

Birmingham keeps it to two main wheelie bins on alternating weeks — a grey-lidded bin for rubbish and a blue-lidded recycling bin with a separate pod inside for your paper and card. A weekly food waste service is being rolled out across the city through 2026, and garden waste is a paid extra.

How Birmingham bin collections work

Birmingham City Council collects the grey-lidded bin (non-recyclable household waste) and the blue-lidded recycling bin on alternating fortnightly weeks. The blue bin has a removable pod for paper and card, with plastic, metal and glass going loose in the main body. Food waste is being introduced in phases between mid-2026 and early 2027, collected weekly with a kitchen caddy. The brown garden waste bin is a paid annual subscription, collected fortnightly from roughly April to November. Present bins by 6am; don't put them out before 3:30pm the day before.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Birmingham?

Birmingham collects the grey-lidded (general waste) and blue-lidded (mixed recycling) bins on alternating fortnights, with a weekly food waste service rolling out through 2026 and a paid brown garden bin from spring to autumn. Your exact day depends on your address — My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you never mix up grey week with blue week.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Birmingham's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Birmingham council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Birmingham or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
