Never miss a Bedford bin day again

Bedford keeps to a tidy four-container setup: a black-lidded bin for rubbish, an orange-lidded bin for all your recycling (glass included since late 2025), a green-lidded bin for garden waste, and a weekly food caddy that launched in March 2026.

How Bedford bin collections work

Bedford Borough Council collects the black-lidded bin (general waste) and the orange-lidded recycling bin (paper, card, plastics, cans and — borough-wide since December 2025 — glass bottles and jars) on alternating fortnightly weeks. The green-lidded bin is for garden waste, collected from 1 March to 30 November. Weekly food waste collections for all houses and flats began on 30 March 2026, on the same day as your black or orange bin. Extra recycling is taken if left in a clear sack or cardboard box beside the orange bin. Present bins by 6am on collection day.

Common questions

When are bins collected in Bedford?

Bedford collects the black-lidded (general waste) and orange-lidded (recycling, glass included) bins on alternating fortnights, with a weekly food caddy and a green-lidded garden bin from March to November. Your exact day depends on your address — My Bin Day reads your council schedule and texts you the evening before each collection so you never mix up black week with orange week.

How much does this cost?

My Bin Day is 99p a month — less than a coffee a year. Cancel any time by replying STOP to a reminder and you won't be charged again.

Do you handle bank holidays?

Yes. We track Bedford's published schedule, including the shifts that bank holidays and seasonal changes cause, so your reminder always reflects the real collection date.

Is this an official Bedford council service?

No — My Bin Day is an independent service and is not affiliated with Bedford or any council. We simply read the council's published collection schedule and send you a friendly reminder.
