Barnet collects general rubbish, recycling and food waste all weekly — one of the more generous London schemes. Black is rubbish, blue is mixed recycling, a brown caddy takes food waste, and garden waste is a paid green bin.
The London Borough of Barnet collects the black bin (general, non-recyclable household waste), the blue bin (mixed dry recycling — paper, card, glass bottles and jars, tins, cans, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, clean and loose) and the brown food waste caddy all weekly, usually on the same day. Weekly food waste collections were reintroduced borough-wide on 30 March 2026. Garden waste goes in a green bin on a paid subscription, collected fortnightly. Flats have communal blue or green recycling bins. Present bins at the boundary by 6am on collection day.
Bin setup and collection days come straight from Barnet. You can also check the council's own page at barnet.gov.uk.
