Amber Valley keeps glass separate from the rest of your recycling: the grey recycling bin comes with a small glass caddy, there's a black bin for rubbish and a green bin for garden waste, all collected fortnightly. A weekly food waste service is being rolled out.
Amber Valley Borough Council (with contractor Veolia) collects the black bin (general non-recyclable waste), the grey recycling bin, and the green garden waste bin — each fortnightly. The grey bin takes paper, card, tins, cans, aerosols and plastic bottles, pots and tubs; glass bottles and jars go in the separate glass caddy, which sits inside the grey bin or beside it on collection day. Homes without a grey bin use green reusable recycling bags instead. Cartons cannot be recycled. Weekly food waste collections are being introduced from June 2026. This information was correct at the time of writing; the council has proposals to change its collection schedule currently under review, so your service may be updated in future. Present bins by 6am on collection day.
